The cancer cachexia syndrome, defined
as “a wasting syndrome involving loss of muscle and fat
caused directly by tumor factors, or indirectly by an aberrant
host response to tumor presence,” is found in 80% of
patients with advanced cancer, most commonly in those with
lung and upper gastrointestinal malignancies.
