Already known

  • Therapies targeting angiogenesis have demonstrated significant efficacy in patients with mCRC.

What this study showed

  • Significant efficacy for aflibercept + FOLFIRI (irinotecan/5-fluorouracil/leucovorin) vs placebo/ FOLFIRI in patients with oxaliplatin-pretreated mCRC.
  • Patients previously treated with bevacizumab experienced no loss of efficacy when treated with aflibercept + FOLFIRI.

Next steps

  • Studies should be conducted examining the efficacy of combination aflibercept + irinotecan in other tumour sites.
